Mural: Snow on the TV
Sponsorship: Calgary TELUS Convention Centre
Address: 120 - 9 Ave SE
This window represents the nostalgia of a time when families would gather around the television to share in the tradition of watching vintage stop-motion holiday tv specials. As you watch the augmented animation, hopefully it will inspire you to share what you have with those around you, and include old friends and new in your holiday celebrations.
ALYSSA KOSKI is an illustrator, animator and entrepreneur. She specializes in whimsical and narrative-based illustration, following themes of adventure, magic and belief in the impossible. She works mostly with children’s book illustrations, graphic novels and animations. Her work almost always has an upbeat and carefree nature, which is why she gravitates towards children’s book illustrations. She also tries to support issues that are important to her in her work, specifically self-confidence, respect for the environment, the power of imagination, and the thirst for knowledge. She has most recently began exploring her Kainai heritage in her art, from illustrating “Napi: The Trickster” to running a pop-up Blackfoot clothing exhibit. She is a graduate of Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary with a major in Character Design.
SHAWNA KOSKI attended the California Institute of Arts in the Experimental Animation program where she studied various animation styles, specializing in stop-motion animation. She has created several films, three of which were funded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Okotoks Arts Council. She creates whimsical stories in a textural style and enjoys utilizing stop-motion because it allows her to act directly through a puppet to allow for a deeper characterization. Her other interests include writing, collecting pumpkins, coaching artistic swimming and drinking chai lattes.
